21-23 May 2019, the meeting of the Russian part of the Intergovernmental Russia-Ghana Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation was held in St. Petersburg at A.P. Karpinsky Russian Geological Research Institute. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation – Head of the Federal Agency on Mineral Resources, Mr. Evgeny Kiselev and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, Mr. Charles Owiredu.
The delegation included representatives from relevant ministries and departments, such as the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Energy, the Ghanaian Ministry of Health and others, business representatives from the mining, oil and gas, cocoa, and alcohol sectors.
For several days, experts worked on agreeing on the protocol of the third meeting of the commission. The main areas of cooperation between Russia and Ghana were: exploration, agriculture, transport, construction, and communications. It was especially noted that it is necessary to develop trade and economic ties.
The final protocol included agreements to continue discussions on modifying the regulatory framework between Russia and Ghana, organizing a visa-free regime between the countries for official or diplomatic passports, and cooperation in the peaceful uses of the atom.
The next meeting is planned to be held in Sochi at the Russia-Africa bilateral forum.
